The 17th International Conference of Historical Geographers will take place in Warsaw, Poland, from 15-20 July 2018.

Contributions are welcome on any aspect of historical geography, including focused empirical, theoretical, and historiographical contributions to historical geography and related fields including history of cartography, history of science, and environmental history.

The participation of early career scholars and postgraduate research researchers is encouraged.


A draft program will be published in January 2018.

The Conference will include a full range of academic sessions, plenary lectures, social events and field trips in Warsaw and different parts of Poland.

The opening session will be on the afternoon/evening of Sunday 15 July. The main conference sessions will be held during the following Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday will be devoted to mid-conference study visits and trips.

Call for Papers

Papers and posters are welcome on any aspect of historical geography, including empirical, theoretical and historiographical aspects of the field and related disciplines, including the history of cartography, history of science and environmental history.

Proposals for:
1. Posters with short contributions
2. Papers
3. Sessions should be submitted on standard forms no later than Saturday 14 October 2017.

There will be an extensive poster session and a competition for the best posters.
